Emerald Racing Stable News
08/20/06 Zarifah remains healthy and ready for her
next race as her turf at Retama Park on 8/17/06 was not
to her liking. Bobby Walker Jr. was impressed with this
horse and will work with us to get her back to Retama on
the dirt at the very earliest we can.
08/06/06 Currently planning on running Zarifah at
Retama Park shortly. The lack of Maiden filly races at
Evangeline have caused us to look at Texas for her next
race. Toboggan Run, Zarifahs' full brother should be
ready for prime time shortly. Our plans are for a couple
of races for her before the Keeneland meet, which we
think we'd like to participate in.
07/07/06 Zarifah put in a 4th place finish today at
Louisana Downs, her 2nd ITM finish in 3 career starts.
From our trainer accounts, she appeared to have clipped
her left front shoe early on, slipped back to last
recovering from this, then with bent shoe underneat her
foot, regained footing to finish 4th. She appeared cool,
fit and collected in this effort with what should surely
be better news in the months ahead.
07/04/06 Zarifah put in a decent but not spectacular
effort on July 15th at Evangeline Downs and will be
running on 07/07/06 at Louisiana Downs 3rd race, 4th
post with jockey Anthony Lavato in the irons. This race
should be a better effort as she appears to favor
distance. 5 furlong races that she has run apparently is
a little short on dirt for her. We'd like to thank our
owners for their patience with getting her to this point
and hope that it was well worth the wait on getting her
to the races!
06/12/06 Great News! Zarifah is set to for a maiden
special weight event at Evangeline Downs, 2nd race,
06/15/06, 7:05 CST start with jockey Billy Patin in the
irons. We are excited that this filly who had shown so
much promise in her first outing last year, is able to
come back from what could have been a career ending
injury and run this thursday!
4/06/06 Zarifah is coming along nicely on the comeback
trail recovering nicely from the chips in knees injury
sustained from her first outing at Churchill Downs on
July 2nd of last year. She is swimming, jogging and
galloping as if she never had an injury - which of coure
is excellent! Toboggan Run is now a little over 2 months
in training so he's about 2 months or more away from his
first start. Some horse racing partnerships shares
remain in both horses so contact us if you wish to be an
owner!
12/27/05. A change of trainers occurred on the
morning of December 20th.
10/26/05 Zarifah is back in training after a
layoff that should bring her back to top form. She was
returned to our trainer Maria E. Pinzon on October 20th and
we are looking forward to more spectacular racing action
from her. Our latest offering Toboggan Run should be
ready to hit the ground running and welcome
inquiries on this spectacular Breeders Cup nominated
colt.
07/02/05 Zarifahs' debut has arrived! In a 5 furlong
$30,000 maiden race at Churchill Downs, Zarifah was by
far the most impressive of all the horses rocketing from
a last place deficit at the 3/16 pole to place 4th in
her first outing. If you
get the chance to see a replay of this race you
might have squinted and thought that you have seen
Giacomo, but
no, it was Zarifah! The replay of this race at Churchill
Downs highlighted her tremendous effort on the
Mitsubishi Diamond screen at Churchill Downs on this
picture perfect day in July.
6/15/05 Zarifah is coming into her final days of
training before her Churchill Downs debut. As you can
see on her page link,
she is looking fit and trim. She will be getting her
gate card this weekend. We are looking forward to a
great race! Its not too late to secure shares in this
filly so please inquire soon. Once she gets racing, you
may not have a chance to own a piece of this great race
filly.
5/22/05 Zarifah now 120 days into training at the Thoroughbred Center in
Lexington Kentucky is showing great promise as she alway
has. This filly loves to work and was clocked at :37.2
for 3/8 mile on a "Dead" track surface on
5/20/05 - a verifiable time - check Equibase or Brisnet
for this and is performing exactly as expected after a
short layoff. We are looking to race in the next 3-4
weeks at Churchill Downs and will keep our base of
followers and owners informed as to the exact date and
time. We appreciate all those individuals that have
worked so hard to get us where we are at with her
currently and are encouraged by the interest level that
potential new partners have expressed in her
recently.
3/10/05 Zarifah now
53 days into training - the first week doesn't count
(getting acclimated to training environment) is doing
everything and more that is expected of her. Juan
Chavarria - her conditioner said that he "is impressed
and it takes a lot to impress me" were his exact
words when commenting on her work ethic and what she is
willing to put forth without asking.
01/04/05 Zarifah has returned from her most recent schooling (breaking under bit and saddle) and will be under saddle on a regular basis starting the 10th of January. She will be initially based at the Thoroughbred Center on Paris Pike Lexington Kentucky. Please let us know if you wish to inspect her.
She is under the tutelage of Juan Chavarria, a Lexington, Kentucky-based
conditioner who has had pretty good success with our
Trainer - Maria E. Pinzon who has a 60% in the money track
record with the local Kentucky tracks and Mountaineer Park in West Virginia. We firmly believe Juan is the right person to get her acclimated to her racing career.
Upon completion of her initial training and her syndication, there will be a number of trainers under consideration for her, one being Christophe Clemente who's bio is described on our site, Kieran McLaughlin who had trained our filly's sire Sahm, John Kimmel out of New York is also being considered as well as Bill Mott.
